     Harold was born Apr 30, 1922, in Oaklawn, Cole County, Illinois.

     He attended West park School and attended High School at Clarence.
     He joined the Immanuel Baptist Church at an early age.

     He received his basic training at St. Petersburg, Fla., and the engineers school at Amarillo.
     He was at the replacement center in Salt Lake City, Utah and received his overseas training in Sioux City.

     On July 3, 1941 he married to Kathleen Rains, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raines of fayette.

     He enlisted to the Air Corps on Jan 5, 1943.
     In March 1944 he arrived in England to join the 401st BG

     His last mission, Apr 20, 1944, Target: Bois Coquerel, France, no 3 engine was hit by flak.
     About 3 or 4 minutes later A/C pulled up vertically , went into a dive to about 12,000 Feet and
     then exploded.

     He was awarded with an Air Medal and a Purple Heart Medal and is buried at Oakland cemetery,Missouri

                       In 1944, when Harold died on the age of 21 he left behind his family :

                           His step-father, Abe M. Hammon, age 73
                           His mother, Hattie C Hammon, age 54
                           His brother, Frank Jones, age 30
                           His brother, Bill Jones, age 24
                           His step-sister, Earnestine Hammon, age 15

                           His wife, Kathleen Jones
                           His daughter, Sarah lee Jones, 10 months




Mission to Bois Coquerel, France, # 3 engine hit by flak,went into dive and exploded.
Crashed near Pont-Remy, France
